List of Monsters in Citadel

This might be of some interest to those of you who have played Citadel: this is the complete list of monsters for each level on Hard difficulty. I made this list in 2015 as part of the project of expanding the levelpack to its current state. It is worth mentioning that while the readme file states that there are 98 enemies in the Barracks, that is technically an error, because I overlooked the fact that when the Jorg is destroyed and the "real" Makron jumps out of it, the computer automatically adds one monster to the enemy count. Choosing the right assortment of monsters for each level was quite a challenge, since the Quake II engine can only handle a certain number of entities before crashing with the dreaded index_overflow_error: this is a problem especially for sounds, since you can't have more than 256 unique sounds for each level, and each monster calls for several of them. Of course I had to save some room for the ambient sounds, and also take into consideration the sounds used by players, items and weapons (the limits on sounds include virtually all sounds you hear during a game: unique sounds played by target_speakers, monsters, weapons fire, the player, as well as default sounds for pickup items and explosions must total less than 256). For the most populated levels like the Main Complex and the Badlands, I ended up manually calculating them, something I shall never do again in my miserable existence. Another troublesome aspect of this problem is in making your map part of a unit: weapons and items carried over from one map to the next count against the 256 sounds limit for both maps. Some custom engines such as the popular Knightmare (with which Citadel is fully compatible) allow to overcome these limitations, but I wanted Citadel to be fully playable even with the vanilla game in order to make it accessible to every Quake II user, including those who may not know about these add-ons.

NOTE: Some of these monsters are concealed in secret areas, or may appear after performing certain tasks: thoughtful exploration is required in order to achieve a perfect kill count. Obviously, enemies created on the fly by monsters with spawning abilities (Medic Commander, Carrier, Black Widow) are not included in this count.
